Twisted

Right here in sweet little Portage County, Ohio:

Ravenna- A man who impregnated his 16-year-old stepdaughter with a syringe should not get custody of the boy who was born as a result, an appeals court ruled yesterday.

....Shenna Grimm gave birth to the boy in 1999 after she was inseminated by John Goff, who was married to her mother. Goff, 42, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in October 2002 for rape and other charges.

Grimm surrendered custody of the child in January to the Portage County Department of Job and Family Services. Goff and his parents then sought custody, but the Portage County Juvenile Court granted the agency permanent custody in May.

Goff and his parents appealed. In a decision released yesterday, the 11th Ohio District Court of Appeals ruled it was in the child's best interest to be adopted, especially considering the circumstances of his birth. [Cleveland.com]

That last sentence is the understatement of the year. I have nothing but pity for this poor, literally misbegotten, child. Adoption at the age of 4 is no picnic, but under the circumstances, he deserves to start over with a family that doesn't come out of a Northeast Ohio sequel to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I think this child would be better off as far away from this twisted prick as possible. What in God's name did he do it for in the first place?

Know what's funny? I grew up in southern Portage County, and my folks' friends still comment that they must be terrible parents, since both my sister and I left forever as soon as we were old enough.

Yeah. Terrible job they did, to get me away from the Goffs and their kin.

There are lots of reasons to move away from southern Portage County, not the least of which is that it is in the middle of freaking nowhere, and there isn't necessarily much in the way of employment unless you want to commute a LONG way. The rural life can be great, but very weird things can grow in isolation that wouldn't be possible in more populous settings.

Middle of nowhere.... *sputter* *gasp*... but what about Kent!! And Akron's right there... and Youngstown... Canton... Cleveland's only an hour and a half... Pittsburgh two hours...

    Ok, fine, you're right.

If you ever want to see the weird things that grow in isolation, I'll give you a look at my high school yearbook.

Eric, I assume you live in Aurora, Cuyahoga Falls, God Forbid Hudson, or someplace with actual stuff and people with teeth and literacy. At least I hope so, and not Brimfield, Rootstown, or Mogadore.

Wait, so was this a virgin birth?
Interesting. In a disturbed sort of way, of course.

Virgin birth, yes, but obviously, not fit as a basis for Bible: The Sequel. That poor girl. Good for the court.

    He hadn't invented them yet.

He's God, he could invent them whenever he wanted to.

Yes, but "could" and "did" are not the same thing or else the universe would rather anticlimactic.
