Timberlake's Drugs, Avril Lavigne Disses Kelly Clarkson

It seems like Justin Timberlake is doing anything he has to to get some publicity for his new record. After his long anticipated feature film debut (not counting his shameful television movie debut in the Disney Channel's Model Behavior), Edison went straight to DVD.

An interview with Observer Music Monthly just recently surfaced wherein Timberlake reveals he has dabbled in drugs. And we're not just talking about weed here.

He says that no one will ever see him do drugs or getting drunk because he does it all in the privacy of his own home.

I don't show up drunk to functions. The drugs I do have been in my own private time. I've never been arrested... though that's not to say I won't. I get plastered, I've done my fair share of drugs and I've been caught with my pants down. I just make sure there are no cameras around. I try to live my life in a well-rounded manner. Some drugs haven't been legalised because it will ruin the other drugs, like nicotine and tobacco. Nicotine is more addictive than heroin.
But he says you must know how to do it in moderation.
They always say too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. I try to live my life in a well-rounded manner. We all make mistakes. I've done too many drugs already. I've already inhaled and already - who knows?

You do know this isn't going to make us forget you're a white boy from Tennessee trying to sing black music, right?

In other celebrity fervor, I recently found an old video clip that was kind of disturbing. During the first season of American Idol, Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson attended that year's MTV Video Music Awards as presenters with Paula, Randy, and Simon.

I remember that next week, Simon commented that Kelly and Justin were real pop stars because they were nice people—in contrast to some of the artists he saw at the VMAs. At the time I had no clue who he was referring to but I was highly curious. This video clip probably explains it.

Which is more talented—Kelly or Avril? I'll let you decide.

Er, is there a problem with a "white boy from Tennessee trying to sing black music"? That's been done a fair few times over the last sixty years...

    It's tongue in cheek, Christopher.

    Calm down, now.

What on earth makes you think I'm not calm? It comes across like you just want to mock him, so maybe you should calm down, now...

I don't love him, in fact he seems a bit of a wally from the little I've seen of him, but his album is absolutely fantastic.

Kelly Clarkson has more talent in her pinky finger than that Avril; girl will ever have. I bet Avril feels bad now that she sees Kelly was able to make a real life after American Idol. Clearly Avril needs her voice fixed on her CD's, Kelly proved to America that her voice is REAL!!! Her dinging is natural, not manufatured!!!

Right on, Tonya! I'm with you. I think America has gotten over Avril Lavigne's fake gimmick and her career will continue to plummet down the drain unless she musters up some semblance of talent sometime soon. I'm sure Kelly Clarkson remembers that shit--and smiles when she looks at that plaque on the wall that says 15 million records worldwide.

You go, Kelly Clarkson has staying power because she has real talent..... Avril who??? That girl needs to learn about Carma because what goes around will come around....

Personally I like Justin Guarini MUCH MUCH better than Kelly or Avril!

To me screaming is not singing and the angry angst act is tiresome. Even in that short clip, Justin just excudes charm, charisma and star quality.

I've heard Justin perform many times and he always sings beautifully, capturing the nuances of a song, interpreting it,creating a listening experience that is captivating, inspiring and totally enjoyable. I loved his second cd, the beautiful smooth jazz cd that he independently produced and released, "Stranger Things Have Happened" a collection of standards that he sings uniquely, elegantly and from the heart, and I am very much looking forward to his first upcoming solo concert Sept 29th at the Commerce Bank Arts Center in Sewell N.J (tickets on sale at ticketmaster)

In my opinion, Justin Guarini has the talent and the star quality to be an entertainer that people will enjoy for many years to come and he is a really really nice guy too!

Pat...you've SERIOUSLY gotta be kidding me.

And what was the point of the random Justin Guarini link at the end?

Should I be sending your resume over to his PR team?

I can see why someone would like Guarini--but to suggest he's more talented that 4 octave Clarkson is almost blasphemous.

Chris, I can't get the vid to play here or a You Tube. What's up with that?

Ok I finally saw it and I'm not so sure that the "push" was itended in the manner in which it's being percieved. I mean everyone knows that Avril wrote or co-wrote Breakaway which she couldn't make her own and let Kelly have it. I also know that Avril has given props to Kelly for being able to make it her own. But as to the question as to who is more talented? Kelly Clarkson. Pat, you're either Justin himself or you are already a part of his PR team. And for teh record, singers who belt (there aren't many who can) are known as belters not screamers. There is a difference you know.

I dunno, Rene. The fact that Lavigne didn't think Breakaway was good enough for her is exactly why she disdains (or at least disdained) Clarkson. That shove, and the facial expression both looked pretty bitchy.

Kelly is more talented. Avril is also a very good singer/songwriter. Kelly seems to have better material & a better voice.

Renee, yes, that push WAS intended. Avril dispised Kelly back then, she once called her a copycat because Kelly wore a tie in her Natural Woman performance on Idol, calling Kelly a F*ckin bitch (because of Avrils punk style of wearing ties) she only has recently come around saying Kelly has talent, and the only one from Idol she would listen too, but, that's only after Kelly made a huge HIT out of Breakaway. I bet when Kelly picked up her own 2 VMA's this past year, that shoving moment was such a distant memory....Avril who??

How many octaves does Bob Dylan have? Madonna? How about Johnny Cash and Ray Charles (RIP)? Are you saying octaves determine talent and all are inferior to Kelly? Belters have their place, but they do not by themselves define good singing. Count me in as someone who prefers a soothing voice, like Justin's,than someone who makes my eardrums bleed.

That "diss" is old news. I think both Avril and Kelly have both moved on and so should we. They are really opposite sides of the same coin. Avril in a way, paved the way for Kelly. Angry Gen Y-ers had no one to speak for them until she came along and Kelly was able to tap into some of that success for herself with a similar sound--though a bit more polished and refined than Avril's. Neither one appeals to me really, but I supposed I'm not their target demographic anyway. Still, I'm sure we'll be hearing from both for a few more years at least.

Kelly Clarkson is so much more talented and Avil. Its the personality and there actions that make an artist survive.. and Kelly beats the two in that category including vocal talents...

avril is a very good singer/songwriter. kelly just have a good voice. Avril makes music and Kelly sings songs

    Jul 17, 2006 at 8:20 pm

^^^ is a moronic comment, since Kelly wrote on half of the songs on her cd (three of which were singles) and is the lead writer on four. Ben Moody and David Hodges both said Kelly came in with the lyrics and melody and they went from there. Maybe you should know the facts before you speak.

Kelly is more talented all around.

Sarah, my point wasn't that because she has a 4 octave range she is better.

Simply that she IS better...and she also has a 4 octave range.

Personally, I prefer Avril. I ended up giving my Breakaway CD away because the songs all started sounded too much the same to me. I think Avril has more character in her voice. She isn't into the showboating the way Kelly seems to be.

Avril is by far better then kelly!

Uhm, I don't want to burst you Avril fan's bubble but Kelly has outsold Avril by about oh I don't know, 10 million worldwide. She also has two Grammy's to her name and just recently inked a deal with HBO for a live concert from the UK. Someone have the stats on Avril. Sure would like to know.
