Theatre Review (Las Vegas): Peepshow

Part of: StageMage

Vegas means many things to many people, but one of the longest–lasting impressions of Vegas comes from the striptease shows. Standby shows that have been a fixture on the strip for years include Jubilee and Fantasy. Peepshow is something new and different.

First, it features 25 world-renowned dancers and singers in a spectacular stage show complete with elaborate costumes and sets. Second, the show now features Holly Madison, one of the best-known reality TV stars in the business (Girls Next Door), playing “Bo Peep, a young naive girl from the country...initiated into her own sexuality by the sexy actress and superstar singer known as Cheaza." Along the way she is serenaded by American Idol star and Broadway’s Tarzan Josh Strickland, who is known for his soaring vocals. He also appears on Holly’s TV show.

The night I attended, Holly was on vacation, but her replacement was her personal assistant Angel who is also a luscious blonde with a great figure. She too is on Girls Next Door so they are all used to performing with each other. Angel did a great job, stepping into the role with confidence and skill.

For me, one of the biggest pluses about Peepshow is that it is a creation of Jerry Mitchell, the famous Broadway director and choreographer. He was the director of Legally Blonde and the revival of La Cage Aux Folles, and received a Tony Award for choreographing the mega-hit Hairspray along with nominations for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Bernadette Peters' Gypsy. With a talent pool like this it is no wonder Peepshow was declared the best new show on the Vegas Strip.

This is not a cheesy show but a classy, spectacular production with gorgeous girls (not artificially enhanced, for those who care) and Broadway-caliber staging. Peepshow is playing at Planet Hollywood in its own specially designed theatre.
