Theatre Review (LA): Pursued by Happiness by Keith Huff at the Road Theatre - Page 2

Part of: StageMage

Huff’s view of family life is very negative yet his play seems to say that despite the damage, love can exist and that we don’t have to be prisoners of our past. The play is beautifully directed by Robin Larsen who gets wonderful funny/sad performances from all the actors. The set is also one of the best I have seen this year. Designed by Craig Siebels, that small stage encompasses two separate households, as well as a few independent locales. He does this by means of scenery that slides into the side walls. The different settings are achieved by means of furniture, and by the basic architecture of the set with a side sitting area and an upstairs den. The lighting design is by Jeremy Pivnik who brings his usual skill into the mix. The sound design is by David B. Marling who sets the mood with James Taylor and John Denver.

Pursued by Happiness is playing at the Road Theatre extended through June 26th.
