Wow! Just surfing the net and I happened to run across this. I'm a 40-something musician and have been a serious music lover my entire life. I've never been particular about Beyonce one way or another, but amidst the morass of talents, posers and marketing creations on the charts in the past 15 years or so I have to say that I've really become impressed with the talents of Ms Knowles. She seems to have a superior work ethic, talent (vocal/performance) and star quality unmatched at this time. I've heard both albums. I didn't care much for her first cd on the whole. I didn't feel the writing and production matched her vocal ability. Her sophomore effort however seems a far better effort to my ears... sorry I've not been exposed to the doomsday/sophomore-jinx critiques/"she's too big so lets knock her down a peg" media manipulation of the public. My only critical comment is that she should tone down the smut factor a bit. It's not necessary and should be left to lesser talents.
I've seen several of her performances. She is consistently spectacular and a rare gift to the popular music listening world. There's no one that can touch her out there right now. I suppose everyone is due their opinion but the original critique here is a pathetic joke, at best. I'm amazed at the level of contempt heaped on BK these days... everything from petty personal attacks to trifling ados about nothing.
I suppose the author did get the attention that he/she was seeking.

I must disagree with this blog. I love most of the songs on the B-day album. Get me Bodied, Irreplaceable, Ring the Alarm, Freak um dress, Kitty Kat and even yes, I said it, De ja vu are hot. All of the songs on the album are good. She even has Listen and the extended version of Get me bodied on track 10 if you continue to listen to it. It may be different than the last album and there are more "club bangers" rather than "cater to Jay Z ballads". This album caters to the females and speaks to how women enduring a rough relationship feels. I wouldn't expect the writer of this blog, undoubtedly a Man, to understand. :-)
