Joseph Alturzarra launched his first season with Swarovski with a real bang. Vogue's Anna Wintour made a pit stop back stage for a snapshot discussion with Altuzarra before going out front and sitting in the front row to see the collection as it hit the catwalk. It was an amazing coup for a young designer, and such an encouragement.
Born in Paris, Joseph was educated and did his fashion internships here in the U.S., then went back to Paris to work with Givenchy before returning to New York for a stint creating his own fashion line.
This collection is definitely red-carpet-worthy and distinctly sexy. Altuzarra has a real command and understanding of the feminine body and how to work it to its' best advantage. What's interesting is that while he did so many red dresses in various hues of that color, he also has some clothes that work beyond the red carpet and that could become staples in a woman's wardrobe. One would call his line fashion as opposed to on-trend, because the style and design of each piece would hold up over time and could be worked into different events.
Personally, I get the feeling this is one young designer to keep your eye on — he's going to be huge. Get him into a ready-to-wear collection and he would be hot — and haute — for women, no matter the size of their bank account or body.
