Spencer Tunick's installations are always news headlines. It's easy to figure out why. A whole bunch of naked people laying on the streets is not a very usual sight for the most of us. Multiple lawsuits and arrests are often the result of his art.
But when we put our first thoughts aside end see the work from an esthetic point of view we see a very balanced, almost modernistic approach in his work.
The masses of naked people are becoming a abstract structure in strong
contrast with the architectural environment. The individuality is not important, the human body is treated as just one of the artists materials he can sculpt his installation with.
In that sense his work is in my opinion not erotic at all. Because to
be erotic there must me always a strong individuality present.
