  • Sadi Ranson-Polizzotti's "growing up in london during the race riots"
  • It's hard to believe such things happen, but as I said, this was London in the seventies and they did happen, and not just to me. But this particular thing, did happen to me. I always said if I wrote about it, nobody would believe me, which was fine with me. I didn't matter what anyone believed because Christ knows, my mother and grandmother knew, as they came screaming around the corner with a belt and a broom in their hand because Stevie had seen the whole thing go down and ran home to get them and tell them that I was being beaten up.

  • Eric Berlin and the Duke have an IM conversation about "GoodFellas"

  • Still waiting for the unedited version,
Duke: What’s really goin’ on, though, beyond the coolness and the slickness and the violence? I mean there could be an argument for "it's just an exercise in style and stylized mayhem"
Eric Berlin: Get this... you're rooting for a criminal... and you're crushed by his demolition
Duke: That's it, I think, too. Its got a tragedy, and its about corruption. talks about the corruption of the American dream and the like much better than Scarface
Eric Berlin: It's like an analogy for the American Dream really — massive consumerism, how empty the Dream is... or something
Duke: Ha! Great minds think alike...
Eric Berlin: Yeah — I agree, Scarface shoots for the moon but doesn't make it
Eric Berlin: Goodfellas gets it all — hits its mark exactly

  • The most commented post - "The Top 100 Guitarists According to Rolling Stone"

  • I still think the list sucks
The only thing that made my heart sing was seeing Robert Randolph on the list. But where is Phil Keaggy? John Petrucci? Oh well, who gives a crap what Rolling Stone thinks, anyway.

  • My own "Terrorism and Its Enemies - An Alliance of Civilizations"
  • The global war, it has already been found, is not a single-focus war, with pure military objectives. It requires covert action, psy-war approaches and social engineering, similar to the multi-lateral, international "alliance of civilizations" that arose post-World War II, and which was fostered by the global terror of the War itself

  • HW Saxton's "I Was A Punk Before You Were A Punk Pt. 1"
  • A long time ago, back before The Ramones could count to 4, before the Black Flag so proudly waved, before The Clash had enough rope, before X marked the spot and before the Sex Pistols backfired punk was knocking at the door. Now in 2005 "Punk" is just another genre in your local music emporium. A product to be bought and sold at the local mall.

I am floored and honored Aaman. Thanks.

Also very stroked to be included, even if you drew the exact opposite conclusion in your summary of my article from what I actually conclude in the article.

Conclusion? He quoted your setup. I thought it was clever, and likely to draw more people to your article to find the answer than anything else. :-)

Indeed - that was the intention - the hook is all important - to skewer or be skewered

      Can't argue with that. It's bang-up marketing.

Thank you so much for the mention, Aaman, it is indeed an honor to be included among such good company.

The Jefferson Airplane piece was a personal favorite; I'm pleased to report that Jefferson Airplane's webmaster added it to their official website.

Awesome Aaman, and I'm honored beyond mere words to be included, especially on a collab with The Duke himself.

The unedited version, you seek, eh? It's not for the meek -- lots more cursing, lots more off-topic banter, lots more tom foolery. I tried to reign it in just enough to prevent widespread Mayhem...

In any event, it's brilliant to look back and see all the fine and varied writing that takes place here. And there's more and more and more of it every single day!

Thanks for remembering me Aaman, unfortunately my mother barely remembers the incident that had a life long effect on me :)

Aaman, thanks. For the nod, but mostly for the link to "Face Offs". What a fucking riot that was. Many good laughs!

As controversial as she was, MD certainly had at least one post that belongs in the Best Posts category.

    • 17 - Cerulean

      Aug 04, 2005 at 7:27 pm

While not necessarily denying the merits of the articles cited, it looks like thirteen males writers and two females, as near as I can tell. Some of the authors cited sexually harass or promulgate hate speech against females in their comments. This is the genesis of the marked gender inbalance at Blogcritics. Flame away. The truth hurts.

    • 18 - Steve S

      Aug 04, 2005 at 7:35 pm

goodness Cerulean, I hope you don't mean me! I've been over on the move-away moms thread defending females!

      Aug 04, 2005 at 7:36 pm

Natalie Davis, MacDiva and Ms. Tek (tekwh0re) are/were some of my favorite posters here, they're all female. But two of them are no longer here.

      Aug 04, 2005 at 7:37 pm

The ratio shouldn't be an issue here as it's Aaman's personal selections.

If you have other choices, Cerulean, why don't you list them here or publish your post?

    • 21 - TDavid

      Aug 04, 2005 at 7:56 pm

Didn't TekWhore change her name to something else, Steve S? Difficult keeping up with her nom de plumes.

This is Aaman's personal list and arbiter of what he likes best at BC, not any kind of definitive or authorative list.

The best writers are always the ones who have a distinctive voice. Our own Shark is one such writer, whether posting or commenting, and this is one of his golden moments, and one of my all-time favorite posts.

Cerulean, thanks for your opinion. I assure you the subjectivity of the post was unintentional - I, too, feel that more women bloggers are very lucid and reasoned than men - and stopped short of adding a 100-post list.
