Screen Actors Guild Awards

The Screen Actors Guild held their annual awards ceremony on February 5, 2005. For the most part, anyone who watched the Golden Globes saw what was coming. However, there were some pleasant surprises.

For example, the late Jerry Orbach won for Best Actor in a Series-Drama. This was a nice touch, since the popular actor from Law and Order passed away from prostate cancer not that long ago. His widow accepted the award on his behalf.

Speaking of Passages, one segment was devoted to those who had died within the SAG awards from last year and this year. Impressively, Ossie Davis got a mention, despite having died only two days before.

Sean Hayes may have uttered the best line from a presentter when he cracked, "All the actresses I know wold be embarassed to recieve a SAG award.".

Tony Shaloub, formerly of Wings fame, was honored as Best Actor in a Comedy for his work as an obsessive compulsive detective in Monk.

Glenn Close received an award for her portrayal of Eleanor of Aquitaine in The Lion Winter-Best Actress in a television movie or miniseries.

Some awards were predictable, such as Hillary Swank and Jamie Foxx for Best Movie Actress and Actor. Sideways won for Best Movie Cast. Televison Actress turned out to be (gee, what a surprise!) Teri Hatcher. Wanna guess which television show won for Best Comedy?

CSI:Crime Scene Investigation also won for Best Series Drama.

Perhaps the best award of all went to James Garner for Lifetime Achievement.
