Too bad Bush didn't save something for Homeland security instead of giving that huge tax break to those in the top 1% income bracket. Or didn't discontinue the multi-billion dollar corporate welfare programs for companies like ADM and other multi-nationals:
Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said Monday the federal government cannot afford to pay for the increased security needed to protect U.S. ports from terrorists.
The federal government plans to spend nearly $3 billion on security programs this year but Ridge said "we can't go around using public money for every private sector need."
Defending the country is now a "private sector need?" Does Ridge not understand how this country works?
If the current feds can't protect the nation, we need a new set of feds.
Hell, maybe we can outsource this and get it fixed this month instead of waiting until November. (As long as it's not to Halliburton.)

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said Monday the federal government cannot afford to pay for the increased security needed to protect U.S. ports from terrorists.
And if we suffer another major terrorist attack and have special hearings to determine the Government failures, Ridge and Co. will deny ever having said this.
RIDGE: "Senator, Homeland security -- especially protecting our ports -- was the number one priority of this Administration. Heck, you can ask Condi to verify it."
feh.
Friggin' criminals.

I'm hoping that this is only an example of Tom Ridge being as stupid as he seems to be.
The alternative is that the administration thinks protection of the nation belongs in the private sector.
That's too scary to think about so I maybe I'll go pop a beer and clean my guns.

Funny, that's all I do these days.
(BTW: Being too scared to think is the most patriotic thing you can do right now!)
