Apple has now announced the new U2 ipod ($349) and the ultra-new ipod Photo. ($499-$599)
The new U2 version will come in black and red which might appeal to fans that wear nothing but black but a limited list of others. Die hard U2 fans will appreciate the band signatures on the back and the fact that it comes with a poster and a coupon to get $50 off the purchase of "The Complete U2.”
This unique box set compiles over 400 new and used U2 tunes that span their amazing career. Personally, I really don't find the new gadget appealing although I am a fan of U2. I just don't like the color and I really can't explain why anyone would want a music player that can hold 10,000 songs from many bands, but it's outer shell is devoted to only one band. Plus if you are such a big fan you probably have all the albums already so the extra 50 bucks is only an incentive for you to spend money you've already spent. Anyway, I do not live and die by the music of U2 so maybe I just don't get it.
The iPod photo on the other hand is very appealing in a photo-geek-sort-o-way. I appreciate the fact that the ipod now comes with a color screen and allows you to store music and photos. (Up to 25,000 lower res images I assume)
This new gadget will surly prove be a good toy for young and old to view photos and share them with friends and family. No need for carrying prints with you to the office or to school. You can simply hand your iPod over while the viewer plays a slide show to the tune of your favorite music soundtrack. Even better — you can attach your ipod to a TV and use the included AV cable to show your beloved images to friends and family. Man, won't those slide projector companies be ticked.

In addition, there's the Ashlee Simpson iPod for all your lip-sync'ing needs, don't go on stage without it.

As I said in my entry Tuesday, this is the 'in yo' face,' touch for Apple. It already has 92 percent of the high-end MP3 player market. Apple could have rested on its laurels for months, but chose to strut its stuff instead.
There are a some real reviews of the new iPods now that a few people have got their hands on them. I will post links shortly.

Looks like MD is blog-syncing, Don't you know you're supposed to blame an unverifiable disease (like a yeast infection, perhaps), then the drummer, the band, and the media.

But it keeps eating my edits in Movable Type, too, Jim. I will do corrections only to have them not show up on the web page.
