There's a programme in AA, and it tells me why I was doing the things I was, and how I can avoid doing them again. A friend once told me "A grateful alcoholic will never get drunk." I couldn't agree more.
If you think maybe you're drinking a bit more than you should be, and maybe you're fed up waking up in tears terrified of what you might have said or done a few hours earlier, then there are plenty of AA resources on the internet. I'm not going to recommend any one in particular, because if there was even one bit of information posted on there that led someone to taking a wrong turn, I wouldn't be at all happy. Do a Google search for AA Recovery and see what you come up with.
And it's not a matter of defeat or anything like that. If a cancer patient was told, yeah, you'll live so long as you do these things here what I suggest, you wouldn't say, "Hey, you fucking quitter! Get back to that cancer, sure it's only a bit of fun." Similarly, if it was you with the cancer, you wouldn't be long of heading that fucking advice.
Alcohol isn't like smoking or chocolate. It's not so easy to give up, despite all those folks telling you it's all about willpower. Another good friend said to me once; "Willpower is great for some things. Try applying it to the shits."
Thanks for reading. Sorry if this part sucked.
