Once upon a time, I attended the taping of a pilot my friend was directing. It was shot in front of a live audience and there were a lot of people there. I was wearing my polka-dot Christian Lacroix shoes, so naturally footwear became the main topic of conversation. One girl I was chatting with pointed out her own shoes, well-worn white flats. There was one detail she also pointed out, but there was no need. I was horrified the moment I looked down. She was wearing Peds.
Peds are tiny little nylon slippers for your feet. Think of them as pantyhose cut down to the shape of skimmers. They are meant to offer the comfort of socks when you can't really get away with wearing socks. Well, guess what? You can't get away with wearing Peds, either. The Peds peeked out from her shoes like a thong out of a 12-year-old's jeans. I was horrified at how tacky it looked.
How fortuitous that I stumbled upon Lingerie du Pied. Two close friends started the company when one moved to Japan and discovered adorable, lacy little socks. They brought the idea stateside, and now offer a fashionable alternative to nylons.

"Lingerie for the Feet" comes in a myriad of patterns, all light and breezy, mesh or lace. They are designed to be seen, but not too much, letting them peep out of peep-toes and adding a decorative edge to simple shoes. This pair has a delicate floral pattern that seems wasted in a shoe.

The best feature about these little slippers will make them every girl's best friend: foot pads. Yes, foot pads. Little cushions are sewn right in to the slipper, offering a touch of desperately needed padding for the ball of your foot. Coming from a girl who is actually considering having a procedure that would inject cushioning gel into the ball of her foot, this is a huge thing. Why don't more companies add better padding to their footwear?
Lingerie du Pied is a truly unique accessory for any girl's wardrobe. They are cute, inexpensive, and functional. What more could a girl want?
