I'm staring out of the bay window of my apartment wondering about the human experience. For three days I have craved nothing more than getting out of this apartment and doing something constructive, yet I have spent the entire time inside.
Why do we go against what is best for us? I know tomorrow when I'm back at work I will hate having not used my time more wisely. I'm looking at a list of things I need to do right now including a story I need to finish and yet I am not doing those things.
I have had the desire to write in this blog for months and though I could come up with anything to write about I used the excuse that I had no time. Like now I am using the blog as a way to ignore the list sitting in front of me.
I guess it's a cycle of procrastination that catches up with us. As the backlog grows longer we begin to shorten it in an effort to avoid it all together. Amazing! I have a wonderful article about Gastro By-Pass Surgery that I will be posting. Not right now though, maybe later.

I have never understood this bias against downtime, calling it procrastination. Most of the time when I procrastinate, it turns out that what I would have done would have been unnecessary. If I'm avoiding a task, there's often a reason why. I'm willing to bet that the story you're putting off will be better when you get to it than if you had pushed through now.

Great point, Justene!!

Maybe it's time to add a few more RSS feeds, Dew? Reading -- for me anyway -- usually introduces a lot to write about.
The summer heat slows me down though, I admit. I'd just rather be outside than inside in the summer. Dragging along the laptop just isn't always in the cards, I guess. Rather grab the beach towel.

Dew- For my part, I'm just happy to see you back in action here. A day without Dew is similar to a day without sunshine.

Hi Dew - RSS feeds are what most of the blogs and major news sites are producing from their content.
They are the headlines and sometimes the full text (and sometimes graphics too) content (so you don't even have to visit the website). They enable you to choose the types of content you are interested in and have it sent to your email or desktop through an RSS reader. Depending on the types of feeds and the RSS reader you are using it may not even be necessary to use your favorite browser to view/read the content.
Simply put, RSS feeds allow you to scan content from websites many times faster than visiting the full website. Blogcritics has an RSS feed (title only) http://blogcritics.org/index.rdf -- it's how I know about the newest entries. It comes in the form of a stock-like ticker on my desktop.
I maintain a page with blog and RSS resources at http://blogs.adultnetsurprise.com/ and also there is a good page from the lockergnome gang at: http://channels.lockergnome.com/rss/resources/
You'll find that you can stay up with the news and your favorite blogs much, much faster using an RSS reader plus it can/will inspire you with new things to write about.

Al, if I didn't know better, I'd think that was a sensitive side you're showing but it's nice to be back. ;-)
Excellent info and links as usual TDavid. Thanks!

I am an infamous procrastinator as well. Frex: I have three assignments due tomorrow, the last day of the summer semester. However, instead of doing them, I am reading, and responding to, a Blog.
Oh, well. It must be something inherent about human nature. It's inexplicable, but a given.
