Practicing Reiki as a Form of Energy Healing

In terms of everyday living, I would describe energy healing as vital life force energy, but speaking metaphysically, energy healing is the Great Mystery. When you think of Energy, you think of the perfect word to describe all that is known and unknown, all that is seen and unseen. Within it, it includes the sacred and the mundane. Energy healing is full, empty, and everything in between. It can be concrete and yet intangible. Recently, energy healing has begun to include various other healing practices such as Reiki.

Reiki is a divinely loving energy. Reiki is Love. Reiki provides the space for evolutions to take place. When I think of the shape of Reiki, it is a circle; a loving circle always in motion. It is a Japanese technique for healing administered by “laying on hands” techniques – healing through divine touch.

The word Reiki is formed from two words – Rei meaning “God’s Wisdom” and Ki meaning “ life force energy.” Reiki treats everything, including body, emotions, mind, and spirit, with many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security, and well-being. It is a natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that anyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and always creates a beneficial effect.

Reiki is an amazingly simple technique to learn. The ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense; rather it is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master that allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy." It can be taught to people from any background, culture, country. It is not religious but spiritual in nature. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.
