As I forecast here on March 12, Apple's lawyers unleashed a ferocious, no-holds-barred attack on Starbrite, the little British software company that very cleverly hacked the iPod's look and feel such that it would run on a Pocket PC - and for only $20!
That last bit was probably what made Steve Jobs tell his attorneys to use the "Darth Vader" approach on Starbrite.
First, they made them change the name of their product from pPod to bBop. Then, when it sold even more strongly, they came back and gave the company a cyanide tablet and said, "Swallow - or else."
When Steve Jobs channels Bill Gates, it's never pretty.

I foresaw this result. The design is much too close to the look and feel of the iPod. Starbrite's best argument is that their product is merely software, hardly a competitor. But, it would cost them a pretty penny to go to trial and make it.
