Photo Essay: Eyes Wide Open

I took these photos at Frederick's Days of Reflection On the Human Cost of War, organized by Women in Black Frederick, in conjunction with other groups.

The most engrossing part of the event was the display of combat boots representing the 40 members of the military from Maryland who have died while fighting the war against Iraq. I took my turn standing, doing a silent vigil, next to the boots on the steps of the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ in downtown Frederick, Maryland.

I wrote about the experience in a Blogcritics article.

Here is some of what I saw while there.

While at this event we did a role playing exercise during which I realized some thoughts deeply stored away about my and father.
I'm thinking of writing a letter to my late father
and submitting it later as part of Memorial Day.

Very moving Scott. A very powerful example of the power of photos over words. You could never find a way to explain how this felt.

    Very good

Thanks a lot, A.L. I saw you had some stuff published - I'll go read them when I can.

I especially liked the two collages at the bottom.

I'm going to try to put together a photo essay on
a less weighty topic, the Hagerstown bluesfestival.

There are more photos from the above event here.
