    Bush vs Kerry:
Look! It's time to ban anyone with a business degree from the whitehouse! Why not have 2 economic advisors 1 democrat and 1 republican. Do the same with the military and so on. I wouldn't mind my tax money going to campaigns if the money was equaly distributed between the candidates. I have a big problem with candidates raising money because it creates special interest groups. Obviously there are a lot of idiots running this country. My biggest question is why does the population let the government get away with it? I don't know enough about nader either but why can't we let the poor guy on the ballot? Why can't we open the elections to any person who isn't rich? I have talked to bums and drunks who are smarter than the people who run this country. A business degree doesn't make you wise. I would like everyone to read this at least twice. If you agree then let's do something about this. Have a great day.

if you're wondering how to get your blog on the listing on this site, go back to the top of this post and read the original article, carefully. Note the bit where Eric asks people who want to join to e-mail him a few necessary details. That's all there is to it.
Of course, if you don't post an article of your own for a week or so, your name disappears from the site's blogroll, until the next time you post an article (i.e. comments don't count for this)
So if you JUST want your site listed on BC, you'll have to pay, or forget it

    Hi Eric,

Sorry to bug you -- I know you must be very busy.

Quick question: how do I track down the Yahoo Groups Blogcritics site -- I can't seem to find it on Yahoo (or anywhere). I'd love to get some reviewing on.

Having a blast with blogcritics.org so far, by the way. If only I could get paid to blog...

    Cheers and thanks,

Call me a noob, but how does one start up a blog to begin with?

  • 50 - Eric Berlin

    Dec 29, 2004 at 3:43 pm

It's very easy (and free!). There are many websites that will help you get started, provide server space, and even technical support.

    I'd recommend: www.blogger.com.

If anyone has alternative suggestions, I'm sure that would be helpful as well.

Eric's suggestion is a good one. Blogger is the most painless way to get started.

Caution... Blogging is like running a small business. They are easy to start, but you need to put effort into keeping it up and running with interesting content. Obtaining and keeping "customers" is also another discussion :)

    ZZ -

I know there are books on blogging out there, but do you know of any good ones (or websites or other materials) that talk about generating a consistent level of content, adding design features, expanding a reader base, taking a blog to the "next level" (whatever that is), monetizing, etc.?

May I recommend Biz Stone's new book, Blogging: Genius Strategies for Instant Web Content. Especially helpful if you are using blogger. It caters to both novice and advanced bloggers.

Personally, I bow at the feet of the Wordpress software. But only after hacking the shit out of blogger first to cut your teeth.

    Dec 30, 2004 at 2:48 pm

Matt - Thanks very much. If you don't mind my asking, what does Wordpress offer that Blogger does not?

  • 57 - Matt Egan

    Dec 30, 2004 at 3:50 pm

    Eric,

Wordpress, like Moveable Type and other more dynamic blog apps, allows you to categorize posts with the click of a button, which is especially helpful if your blog focuses on multiple categories, and you would like your readers to be able to isolate content from one category. Wordpress is also extremely easy to work with, and rewards you for learning just enough html and css to turn your blog into something very user friendly.

Its also free, and there is a legion of Wordpress devotees who devote hours upon hours to building plugins and hacks that allow you to further expand the app.

You'd need to get a domain name, which has a nominal cost yearly, and then you could get with www.cyberwurx.com, which offers discounts to blogcritics, and pay them about 5 bucks a month to host your blog.

If you like tweaking, apps like Wordpress are for you. If you don't care about design or expanding the user interface of your blog too much, and you want it totally free, blogger is for you.

Eric--If you want more details, by all means email me from my blog. The email link is on the right menu under the other column.

  • 58 - Matt Egan

    Dec 30, 2004 at 3:54 pm

actually--it looks like you already have that domain. You're halfway there!

    Dec 30, 2004 at 4:05 pm

    Dec 30, 2004 at 4:15 pm

Matt - Thanks for checking that out. As far as I know, I still own it -- a pal of mine registered it for me some months back -- it's probably under his name.

I'll likely e-mail you a bit later, if you can put up with the hectoring...

Sorry, Eric B., but even back in the Seventies I was always more into avant-garde music than punk, and I don't know Bad Religion at all.

    More possible titles:

    Nick Jones' Ashes
    Nick Jones' The Ashtray
(Nick Jones is my nom de Internet, and the name of my main addiction.)
