Well, a few days ago the All Star Game players were announced and as usual certain teams feel snubbed. It's common for teams that are last place to only get one player to go, however, occationally deserving teams also get the horrid one player treatment.
My life love is the Philladelphia Phillies. It is not easy being a Phillies phan this year. It's been pretty up and down. Yet, despite the fairly long down strech the Phillies find themself in 2nd place after the Braves in the NL East and 2nd place after the Diamondbacks for the NL wild card race (if it can be considered a race still in the first half of the season). Just a week ago they were 4.5 games behind the Braves and in first for the wild card. A losing skid of 5 out of 7 games in the past week has halted those numbers, but hope still exists.
The only player, however, being sent to the All Star Game this year to represent the Phillies is our pitcher, Randy Wolf. Definately deserving, we are thrilled to have him there. But what about our other just as deserving players?
Most notably would be fan favorite, Jim Thome. While starting off the season slowly, which is normal for him, he has picked up the pace amazingly the past month and a half or so. He has 22 home runs and a good number of RBIs.
Statistically catcher Mike Lieberthal is having one of his best years hitting at the plate. He has steadily been in the top 10 list for the top batting players, usually in the 3rd or 4th spot. He had a week or so where he didn't hit well and dropped off the list briefly, but soon went on a hot tear and found himself back up there toward the top.

Dude, if you think it's tough being a Phillies fan, try taking the turnpike east and enduring a Pirates Season. Derek Bell, Pat Meares, Kevin Young, the overrated and underwhelming Jason Kendall, I could go on and on. Even the bobblehead quality is going down hill. At least PNC park is all that.

Whoops, I meant turpike "west"! Duh. Unless the Pirates are now playing in New Jersey.
