Chris Hughes advises, “If users do not want faculty or staff to see their profile information, all they have to do is go to the "My Privacy" section and change their settings. They can make it so that only students can see the info or even so that only friends can. Users have complete control over who can see what.” Much like other college campuses, SUNY Potsdam Vice President of Student Affairs Chris Strong and Mr. Morris have had discussions on student usage of Facebook and how and where to apply the college’s rules to student usage. Students at SUNY Potsdam and all academic institutions may contact their Dean or Vice President of Student Affairs and heads of student conduct to discuss their opinion on this important and evolving issue. As Chip Morris stated, “we have to think before we leap” on sites like Facebook. The consequences of misusing Facebook can damage a student’s chances for their career and hinder their social life.

What's the difference between facebook and yahoo, or AIM?
Further, are college students so stupid as to not realize that everything is public in this new,hyper-real world? Privacy is so 20th-century:)

Facebook isn't an instant messaging service. It is much more like a bbs where the conversation can be somewhat real time, but through "private messages." You create a profile with as much or as little info about yourself as you like (some simply put their city of residence, others put their address and phone number). It is like Friendster or Myspace, only a bit more exclusive in that it is for students or alumni and not just anyone.

This is a very informative artical. I think it should be shown to everyone of FB. I have countless friends with wasted pictures at parties and whatnot...
