Keep Paris Hilton on TV ... no, seriously

I don't like Paris Hilton. I don't think anyone does. In fact, if God is indeed on our side, there's an outside chance that Paris doesn't like Paris.

But she's famous and gets more press coverage per cubic media outlet than anyone else based on sheer fame. And her life — sans the embarrassment of a publicized infragreen-tinted sexual encounter and a thinly-secured cell phone whose text messages were sex taped to celeb-hungry consumers — is pretty damn good.

Her life rocks because she's rich and rubs elbows with the most popular celebrities today. (Well, we know the elbows are rubbed on-camera. Other appendage rubbing is speculative for now.)

Yet in every discussion of most annoying celebrities, Paris Hilton kills the competition. Several Blogcritics mock her, and rightfully so.

People wish she'd go away. But she won't.

Because we all give her so much god damn attention. And let me be the first heterosexual male who is not a Paris fan to assert that maybe Paris's permanent residence in the limelight is actually a good thing.

A highfalutin scholar could write a 2,000 word dissertation on why Paris's life is indicative of the typical selfish millionaire who has no appreciation for anything sacred in society. He could proselytize how entertainment magazines and music television has sunk to a new low for featuring her on shows, documentaries and, yes, the charts. And the guy will conclude his essay feeling that because of his message, people will finally think less of Paris and not care.

But you just wrote 2,000 words on Paris. You're giving her more attention than anyone.

This is what everyone is doing. Paris Hilton is the famous antagonist we can all deride. She's the common thread that unites everybody with half a brain. We all hate her, so we can all focus our hatred on her. Better still, anything that goes wrong in our own lives, we can take it out on that dumb bitch instead of inadvertently snapping at our loved ones.

"and I bet Paris is richer than all of
you..." I'm sure of that Miss Amanda.

As long as she can act like a slutty &
brainless bimbo with no regards for any
    one other than herself(you included)in
full public view, then we the public
retain full rights to comment on her &
her poor behavior.Paris is a very mean
    spirited, self centered, humorless and
    spoiled brat/bitch with absolutely no
regard for anyone other than herself.

She is famous for partying and being a
slut. She didn't go to college and does
not even seem to be able to put together
a sentence well.In short she is stupid.
Do you really look up to her for these
    reasons?

She has her own clothing lines and other
    fashion related businesses going.If her
parents were not wealthy she would not
even have this to her credit.

Amanda, Im sure you are a smart & pretty
young woman. There are many women who
would provide much better role models.
    Why would you pick her?

Making a name for onesself is OK. I'm doing the same thing.

But a "riches to more riches" story won't captivate many.
