The idea struck me this morning. His distinguishing characteristic as a candidate is that he is not-Bush. Bush is popular among some, but incredibly unpopular among other groups. Would Kerry be willing to make unpopular decisions? Is the ability to do so a necessary quality for the President to have? What do you think?

Kerry hopes to win this election by default. He assumes (perhaps correctly) that the American people are sick of Bush, and that he can slide into the White House without doing much more than making vague promises he doesn't really plan to keep.
