Great gift ideas

With labour day behind us it will soon be time to think about gifts for the Holidays. With this in mind you could do worse than checking out the Glassmasters range of museum-quality stained glass.

Many people will have seen the reproduction Tiffany and Frank Lloyd Wright windows in places like the Metropolitan Museum Store, the National Cathedral Gift Shop and the Chicago Museum of Art shop. However, not everyone will know that Glassmasters also make panels depicting the work of fantasy artists such as Josephine Wall or the celtic-influenced art of Courtney Davis or the fairies of Cicely Mary Barker.

In fact there are close to 200 different items to choose from - works by Chagall, Monet, Degas, van Gogh, Gaugin all lend themselves beautifully to being turned into stained glass panels which only need illumination - either by the sun or artificially - to bring them to life.

'Orchard Cardinals' is a favourite for bird-lovers, as is 'Country Morning Bluebirds'.

Several new products are at various stages of launch including 'Angel of Joy' by Courtney Davis, Harvest Beauty by Mucha, the Rose window by Matisse, the Beth Ahabar Dome and 6 new Thomas Kinkade items including 3 lamps.

The fine detail and colouring of these works is incredible and they must be some of the last ornamental products to still be made in America. The process involves applying different colours in layers, each application being followed by an oven-firing culminating a final firing at over 1100 degrees. This ensures that they will never fade.

In addition to Glassmasters stained glass it is also worth looking at some of the statuary produced by their sister-company, Stonemasters, including works by Degas and Rodin.

The following are some links to items which may be purchased from Amazon. There was a software glitch which caused these items to show up as 'out of stock' or 'unavailable' when links were posted from 3rd party sites such as this one. At time of writing I am unsure whether this glitch has been fixed but in case the items should be so-labelled simply ignore the out-of-stock notices.
