The Golden Globe Awards were held on January 16, 2005. Why the big deal, you might ask? Because supposedly these are the map of how the Oscars will be handed out. Under ordinary circumstances, that logic would be true. Not this year.
You see, the movie awards are divided into two categories-drama and musical or comedy. How did this year's picks stand up? Well, Best Actor went to Leonardo DiCaprio in The Aviator, the story of Howard Hughes. Incidentally, that also won Best Picture. Best Comedy went to Sideways. Natalie Portman, who will be readily memorable to her fans from her role in the prequel Star Wars movies, won Best Supporting Actress for her work in Closer. In case you need a hint, the one with Julia Roberts and Jude Law. Jamie Foxx took home Best Actor for Ray. Clint Eastwood was Best Director in Million Dollar Baby, which also gave Hillary Swank her second Globe.
Now then, the television awards were home to surprises. William Shatner won for his portrayal of Denny Crane in Boston Legal. James Spader, who plays Alan Shore on BL lost, but he also has an Emmy for that same character when he was on The Practice. The one with Dylan McDermott and Lara Flynn Boyle, who had the unfortunate experience of being postured into a bag on Twin Peaks, Teri Hatcher and Mariska Hargitay took the Best Actress, in comedy and drama, respectively.
Nip/Tuck acutally took home Best Drama while Desperate Housewives took home Best Comedy.
