Get the K Factor: Kate Moss for Topshop Summer 2010

High Summer has hit Britain and the hallowed halls of Topshop are once again ringing to the sound of the Moss mob as fashionistas from across the globe try to get their trendy talons on a little slice of Kate-pie.

Kate Moss Topshop ss2010The queues will be endless, the battles fiercely fought with gritted teeth hidden behind picture-perfect pouts, and many a sly jab with bony elbows cleverly disguised in this season's diaphanous chiffon will be doled out to any retail-rampage rookies unlucky enough to find themselves standing between one woman and her laser-cut suede shorts. Only the savviest, hardiest and most brutal will survive—let alone make it out of the store successfully brandishing an item of (approximately) the correct size.

Of course, what anyone of sound mind will be wanting to know before hurling themselves into the sartorial snake pit is: is it worth it? And I regret to inform you that, in this case, yes it is. Casting aside her rock-chick roots and jumping headlong into a Woodstockian Garden of Eden, Ms. Moss has credibly surpassed the hype with her airy-fairy vintage-meets-boho take on the hottest summer trends.

Highlights include a dreamy graduated floral print maxi dress with fluted ¾ length sleeves which evokes an otherworldly romantic wistfulness; the breezy floor-skimming leaf-print frock in tea green with its tie-straps, frill hem and bow back has Glastonbury written all over it. A maxi-back dress in vintage printed cotton adds a contemporary twist to the collection, whilst a quirky feather cape in rainbow pastels will inject enough gratuitous twenties glamour to your wardrobe to turn even the brightest young things green with envy.

An anachronistic hotchpotch of historical references (the fifties frock, the seventies silk all-in-one, the twenties maxi) vies with an equally eclectic profusion of pretty prints for your awe-struck delight and delectation. Add in a heady dose of reworked runway—Dioresque sheer chiffons and luxe lingerie silks, ruffles and flounces a la Fendi, crisp pastoral Chanel credentials in broderie anglaise—and the resulting melange is the 2010 high street collection to covet (and covet you will).

The lines have been drawn and the bugle sounded. It's time to whip out that credit card, sharpen those elbows and join the fray: this is one collection that isn't going to hang around...

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more...
