Fonts for Disaster Relief - Phase 3

The first two phases of The Scriptorium's fundraising effort for hurricane relief in Louisiana went pretty well, raising a total of $977 total so far ($522 for the Red Cross and $450 for the Baton Rouge Food Bank). We're carrying on now with our third and last font which will be available for the next two days - Bienville. Thanks to everyone from Blogcritics who participated and got Ironworks and Guede for their previous donations. We hope you will find Bienville just as appealing.

All of the proceeds from the sales of Bienville for the next two days will go to Habitat for Hummanity's hurricane rebuilding fund. Even if you've already donated and received Irownworks or Guede, you can now donate again and get a copy of Bienville as well. We picked Habitat for Humanity for the last phase of the effort, because we wanted to make sure that we covered the rebuilding effort as well as immediate relief. Habitat for Humanity seemed particularly appropriate because they often put little aesthetic design touches reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts movement in their remodeled and newly built homes.

Bienville is a decorative script font with decorative flourishes. It is based on 18th century type. We picked it for this project largely because it happens to be named after the French explorer, soldier and politician Pierre le Moyne d'Iberville, Sieur de Bienville who founded New Orleans among his many other accomplishments and shares the family name with his younger brother Jean Baptiste le Moyne de Bienville who was the first governor of Louisiana. That connection made it irresistible as our third choice.

100% of all sales of Bienville will go to disaster relief and we'll cover all credit card or other associated fees. We only ask that you take your font by online delivery to keep our labor to a minimum. To order Bienville for MacOS or Windows just go to our Ordering Site and stop back by in a few days to see the next font and get an update on how the fundraising came out and whether we made our goal of raising $1500 for the three charities.

You can also make donations direct to the Baton Rouge Food Bank, to Habitat for Hummanity or to the Red Cross. When donating make sure to specify that your donation is for Katrina disaster relief.
