Let’s face it: Most Americans don’t do anything to help starving people, not even starving children. That’s why millions and millions are left hungry.
Fortunately, there are some Hollywood stars who are helping the hungry, and encouraging the public to help too. Monique Coleman, who plays Taylor, the brainy girl in Disney’s High School Musical and was on Dancing with the Stars, is one of them. Monique is working with America’s Second Harvest—the nation’s food bank network—and is encouraging kids and their families to stop by and participate in a food drive for needy children in the LA area.
The food drive will be held at Hollywood and Highland in Hollywood, California on Tuesday, August 5th from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. Yours truly will try to attend and take pictures. This is definitely an event at which children can learn to lend a hand, so make this a family event. Of course, everyone is invited.
The children will help Monique pack the food, and she will teach the kids how to start their own food drive. The first 500 kids will receive a “Fight Childhood Hunger” lunch bag. The bag was designed by Miss Coleman herself.
In the United States alone, there are 12 million children at risk for starvation. That’s a scary thought, isn’t it? These kids come home from school and don’t know if they will get dinner. America’s Second Harvest has helped 25 million people, 9 million children and 3 million senior citizens. Now, ConAgra Foods is stepping in to help as well, providing places to eat and trucks to transport the goods.
If you live in the LA area and have nothing to do this Tuesday (and having time available is the beauty of summer for us teenagers), pick some food and help feed the hungry children.
