No matter who you are or how good a life you’ve lived, there’s someone somewhere who is sure you’re going to hell when you die, but probably not soon enough to suit them. You would think the certain knowledge that the object of your ire is going to suffer ghastly torments for eternity would inspire a bit of patience, but some people just can’t wait.
You know who I mean: the killers who call themselves pro-life and the murderers who call themselves martyrs. You look at these creatures and it’s not hard to see the disconnect between what they say and what they do.
It’s easy to see their shared characteristics. Those who practice violence are the chosen ones; heaven will be their reward. Their victims, on the other hand, are baby-killers and infidels, sinners whose actions consign them to damnation.
And there’s the rub: If the killers who shoot abortion providers and bomb birth control clinics and the murderers who fly planes into buildings and plant bombs in roadways are so certain that the people they despise are going to roast on a spit forever and ever, why can’t they wait for God to mete out his punishment?
Maybe it’s because they talk a better game than they play. Their faith, if it exists at all, has to be shaky. After all, faith is belief without evidence. Faith is not subject to reason. You have to open your soul to feel the presence of God. But if you do that, how are you going to kill somebody? Homicide occurs in a moral vacuum, no soul required.
Scott Roeder, the admitted killer of abortion provider Dr. George Tiller, said, “I don’t have any regrets.” Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, said he’s proud of what he did. To these guys, shedding blood is either a matter of indifference or a reason to celebrate.

There was a better way. In an oppressed environment defeated people wanted retaliation and bloodshed and Jesus Christ offered a better way don't be enslaved by anger and retaliation -- "‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’ But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell."
