Zines were blogging before the Internet. Same impulse, smaller reach.
BTW, I still have a large collection of FF's from the Seth days if anyone is interested.

which gives rise to the question, why would they revive a publication about zines when blogs have replaced them? Are there any zines anymore? And if so, why?

Blogs lack tactility zines offer. There's something about those freshly-Xeroxed papers; the smell; the joy of having a finished product in your hands. This is what many zine writers tell me.
In fact, in Boston, this past week, there was a zine conference, with workshops on how to create you own zine.
They may not be as popular as before blogs, but they're still plenty of them out there.
