By the time some of you get this podcast, it might well be too late. On December 2, Singapore will execute Nguyen Tuong Van and America will have gotten much closer to exectuting the 1000th person since the death penalty was re-instituted in 1976.
It took me so long to get another podcast completed yet this one was finished in a couple of days to actually record.
The entire thing is a little stream of consciousness. It doesn't have the flow I normally hope to have but time was running short for me to say what I wanted to say before Friday.
I hope the rambling and the brief foray into the realm of the political won't turn too many of you off. If nothing else, the music is really good in this episode.
You get 3 Springsteens, a Pearl Jam, a Lanegan, and a Dylan. And me. What more could you ask for?
Clemency. Mercy. Common sense.
Here endeth the rant.

Ah - I'm in to hear the Radiohead Rant. Downloading for listen in the after ... noon

I appreciate it, Temple. I am afraid there is not as much rant in this one. I tried my hand at more of a 'serious' tone. Have no fear, though. There was a lot of material originally aimed for this 'cast that got held back for the next and the ranting and raving will return full force.

Calling out Mr. Winn!

This was damn interesting, hearing someone struggle live to find the right / besrt way to express themselves on a subject they feel very (bleeding) heart about.
Joking. From just your comments here, quite surprised. most of the time I'm quite in favor of he death penalty. But the system needs fixin', as far as race.
listening now. about half way through. "I think there are some evils that we'll never be able to adequately punish on this side of the life and death continuum."

Temple, very interesting assessment. You're right, of course. It is a strange thing to hear someone searching/struggling in that environment. I hadn't thought of it like that but I sure knew I was going through it.
It was one part choosing to wing it more than write it out before recording.
It was one part wanting to strongly advocate what I believe while not alienating anyone.
It was also... I used to be on the other side of this issue as I mention and it is very easy sometimes to get swept up in the emotion of both sides of this one and what you hear (for better and worse) is very genuine. It's a glimpse into one part of my cavernous, demented mind.
I'm glad you checked in. I am already plotting Ep. 9.

Looking forward to checking this out, DJR!

Thanks, EB! Hope your audio issues and such all work themselves out soon.

this was a danged fine listen.
and not because i agree, but because it's interesting (and rare) to see somebody deal with an issue where the stance is at odds with the rest of his political alignment.
new category at blogcritics: non-spittle-inflected political discussions (of course, started by winn & berlin)

Thanks for checking in, Mark.
I, too, find it interesting to see someone break from the ranks of their typical political alignments. It's one of the things I have always liked about John McCain. It doesn't take that much courage to call your political adversaries a bunch of ___________'s. To call out your friends? A different animal.
You had mentioned to me offline you took a bit of a shine to the Lanegan song?
10 - Mark Saleski
yep, what record's it from?

That particular song ("Untitled Lullaby") is from a now out of print compilation called "Free the West Memphis 3." I found a copy on Half.com. That's where I purchased it. Those not wanting to go that route might be able to find other ways of getting an electronic version of the song.
The Lanegan songs played in the other two podcasts I have played him were both from his "Bubblegum" album. My favorite Lanegan disc is "Field Songs."
