The first couple of weeks will see the editor's refining how they make their choices. Short examples of great turns of phrase and artful language will also be included as discovered.
There won't be a certain number from each category (Music, Books, Video, Culture / Tech, Politics). There might not be something from every category, but a section editor may be away. If nothing sparked an editor in a certain week, we will mention that, too.
There will be no set number each week, but with about 250 posts a week, somewhere between 5 and 15 will be typical. Self-submissions are NOT encouraged. It's what caught the eye of the editors.
Usually there will be a sentence or two explaining why the editor chose the post.
Also, as Pat Cummings mentioned, there are many quality posts that deserve to stick around a little longer in the readers' focus, but because they didn't garner many comments, slide into the chronological list, and then into the archives, unnoticed.
We'll revive the great ones.
It's not meant to be competitive and there are no prizes. If something is chosen, it stood out in the minds of the editors and has enduring quality. To the best of our ability if someone continually writes well, they will not be penalized for over-appearance.
We also realize that some people do not necessarily post here with their best writing, but more just to start conversations. This also applies to regular features. So an absence of a name does not mean they aren't great writers off-site.
Lastly, this isn't a "let's pick her / him because he hasn't been on the list yet." It's the best. That's the only way it means something. And, if you're a pick, don't kiss our asses. Not that you would, but just in case.
The editors are currently: Justene Adamec (Legal advisor, Asst. editor), Eric Berlin (Video editor), bhw, (Culture / Tech editor), Pat Cummings (Books editor), Lisa Iannacci (Politics Editor), Eric Olsen (publisher, co-owner), Temple Stark, Executive Editor, Music Editor), Phillip Winn (Blogcritics tech guru, co-owner),
All of us are also contributors and if we have anything worthy, they will be listed separately from the rest of the editors' picks.
Thank you

Enjoy.

Good show - much needed citation of fine stuff.
YOu didn't like any of the music stuff, hmmm?

Temple -- maybe put the section headers (music, culture, etc.) on top of the links/comments to the picks of the week? It's a bit confusing at present (see: Aaman's comment).
Great job setting this up.

I was wondering what Aaman meant - you may have got it.
Good idea.
