Justene Adamec's picks - Asst. Editor

The Ten Things to Know About Cigar Wrappers - Matthew Rosen, June 1

Cigars hold some interest for me but since I smoke 1 or 2 a year, I'll never do the research myself. Who knows how long it would be before I gleaned all this
information on the wrappers.

Pat Cummings' Books picks

The Book of Ralph - Bennett Dawson, June 1

I liked the start of this review ("Sucker-punched."), and the finish ("I'm looking forward to many years of literary escape through the workings of his extremely clever mind..."), and everything in between.

Honorable mention:
The Sex Lives of Cannibals: Adrift in the Equatorial Pacific by J. Maarten Troost - Deano, June 1

Deano gives us a quick peek at the fun of reading a humorous book with a provocative title.

Temple Stark's Music picks
Music Playlist: The Absolute Worst Covers... Ever. - Robert Burke, June 2

Nope, not great writing, but Robert here has been producing fun lists like this for quite a while. They start conversations. And I love cover songs. (See the Coverville Podcast)

Four awesome albums by women in 2005 - Rohin, June 3

For having the big swinging brass ones to label Emma Bunton (of Spice Girls infame) in any "awesome albums" list - and to do so sincerely, not as a joke.

(Guess I was looking for a little light-hearted escapism this week and appreciated both of these.)

I'm not a fan of cover songs, but when they're done right, they rock. See Springsteen's cover of Suicide's "Dream Baby Dream" on his current tour. The book, "Music Playlist: The Absolute Worst Covers... Ever." - Robert Burke, sounds fascinating. I'll have to pick it up.

    Thanks for the recommendations.

Heh, I love the format! Now we can all glare at the three editors that didn't submit any picks this week, or they can glare at the posters who apparently posted nothing really worthwhile all week long! :-)

If an editor said "there is nothing I liked this week" that would help and I would add that in. I'm not sure the situation or whether that's true. I think this week was merely a hiccup.

There wasn't any "editor's picks" chatter this week, so I suspect it dropped off the radar for several editors. I'll get my pick(s) in soon.

    Thanks for the honors!

Might I suggest the creation of a "gold star" blogcritics "pick of the week" button (1"x1" or a bit smaller). I'd drop it into the review on my blog, and have it link back to this page.

    Would that be cool?

I'll do it. Ready for next week. Retroactive usage OK.

Even if you advertise here - not that I can see at the mment - your links count as free advertising. The ones that are comprehensible.

If I see another link in the same vein, i will delete all your last few.

If you have a book you would like reviewed, please contact me and we'll get someone here at BC to do so.

    Thank you
    Temple Stark, BC.org Exec. Editor.

    Mr. Stewart (?),

Well as I said, you can submit it for review.

Send us a short news release summarizing the basics, and the details and you can send it to my e-mail address here writer@templestark.com and I will see that it gets to the rest of the blogcritics.

    Thank you.
