David Lee Roth takes over for Howard Stern

UPDATE: STERN WAS PULLING ANOTHER OF HIS APRIL FOOL'S JOKES. IT ISN'T TRUE AND I JUST GOT DUPED. THIS IS WHAT I WROTE ANYWAY.

This morning seems to be the first morning that Howard Stern isn't on the radio any more in Cleveland. I thought he wasn't supposed to be done until January, which means one of a couple of things.

Either Stern somehow got himself a buy-out so that he could go to Sirius sooner, or Viacom decided to replace him early and keep paying him so that they could get some of his fans locked in to a new show.

Which is where David Lee Roth apparently comes in to play?

Are you serious? If radio success is determined by the age group 18-35, what is David Lee Roth going to do for you? David Lee Roth was the lead singer of Van Halen from 1978 to 1985. He had something of a solo career for a few years after that. What I am getting at is that most of the age range of 18-35, did not grow up with David Lee Roth.

An 18 year old today was born in 1987. That is two years after David Lee Roth finished with Van Halen. More importantly, what age does a kid become a fan of music, or even have an awareness of music? 6 years old at the earliest? That means people who were born in 1981. They are 24 years old today. So that means DLR is missing at least 6 years of the targeted audience before he even starts. And it is really unlikely that anyone under the age of about 10 knew David Lee Roth. That means 28 year olds. All of a sudden that age range has shrunk down to 7 years in the targeted audience.

Stern is so tired. I wish he and his lameness would just go away already. Opie and Anthony are the now and the future for radio.

You can't be serious about getting duped by this obvious joke this morning. If you tune in to Stern with any regularity you would have heard this hilarious DLR impersonator on several other occasions.

Our radio station must have fallen for it, since they are playing crappy rock instead of the 'april fool's joke.'

I am sure this is a joke, with Howard poking fun at the recent news that DLR wants his job.

If it is true, after listening to the rubbish I heard this morning, this is a very bad move indeed.

I always planned on getting sirius as soon as he does move over.

Like I said, I have been listening to Opie and Anthony uncensored on XM Satellite Radio. I got fooled. Not to mention it was 6:30 in the morning.

Verify my sources? It was my radio as I was listening this morning. It isn't like I just reported Karl Rove's firing or something like that.

We are talking about a radio show here.

This was so obviously a bit. The person doing DLR was so over-the-top that it couldn't possibly have been him. PLUS if Howard was told about his being fired last week... why would Robin have only found out about it this morning.... Howard would have called her immediately.

I applaud Craig Lyndall for this honest yet scathing blog post on Howard Stern. He's right to say that Howard is a douchebag, but to compare him to O&A is like comparing filet mignon (O&A) to rotten meat soaked on coca-cola for 15 years (Stern).

Well, I used to be a bigger Stern fan. Once upon a time he was the best by far, but it has been a long time since then. It will be interesting to see what he can do once he finally goes to Sirius.

It is going to take a lot for him to beat out Opie and Anthony with Lil Jimmie Norton.

Obviously the author never heard when "Cross & Lopez" replaced Stern the last time this prank was done. No brainer.

Perhaps Stern needs a good talking to, if you don't mind my saying so. Perhaps a bit more. His fans, sir, they didn't care for KROCK at first. One of them actually stole a pack of matches, and tried to burn it down. But I "corrected" them sir. And when my wife tried to prevent me from doing my duty, I "corrected" her.
