Copyright Symbols

Keith Bernstein provides a primer on copyright symbology (I think I just made that word up):

The C Note © is the copyright designation for a published item of music and
is shown as a circled "c", followed by the year of copyright and name of the
    publisher.

The P Note (P) Copyright Symbol is for a recorded work and shown as a
circled "p", followed by the year of copyright and name of the recorded work
    rights holder.

The Copyright is the legal right granted to an author, composer, publisher,
or distributor to exclusive publication, production, sale, or distribution
of a musical or artistic work.

The Composition is an arrangement of music, the underlying work of a sound
recording - "the song" itself rather than the physical recording of the
    song.

The Song/Work/Composition is the underlying music contained in a recording,
as distinct from a specific recording.

The Sound Recording/Track is a recording of a composition — the
performance of a particular Composition captured on Media for future
    listening or sale.
