C'mon Robin!

I am getting increasingly annoyed with the talk on Stern’s show regarding Robin Quiver’s recently struck deal with Sony Pictures to develop a daytime talk show.

Don’t we have enough of these? Robin on her own, minus Howard and the rest of the Stern gang, is liable to be just as insufferable a daytime host as the many before her who have sucked royally.

The talk show circuit to me is all about the ego of the host. As opposed to other forms of hosted shows, like late night shows, the talk show hosts create an agenda with their show to let the world know about what it is that they value most. It almost invariably becomes unwatchable, and I suspect Robin’s show will bomb. Here are my reasons:

1. Howard has a big following, but it is largely non-existent in Middle America, and is mostly concentrated in large metros.
2. In the areas where Howard is a household name, Robin is not generally considered the most popular Stern character. Her pompous attitude and annoying cackle turn many people off.
3. Howard has good female listenership, but it is dominated by men, who generally do not watch afternoon talk shows. Robin will have to appeal to women who despise Howard in order to succeed, and I suspect they’ll find Robin guilty by association, and will avoid the show.
4. Robin is empirically uninteresting without Howard.

Hey Robin, there is a reason you’ve been a sidekick for 25 years.

Yahoo has the story here.

Matthew, I agree with you about Robin being uninteresting, and whomever is sponsoring this talk show is going to find this out in a hurry. This could be just as big a train wreck as the talk show that the woman that played the little sister on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" had recently. The young lady's name escapes me right now, and it's not worth the time or effort to research her name. The willingness of the networks to give anyone a talk show just amazes me.
