Google will launch a new open source database called Google Base, according to a thread at Search Engine Watch (screenshot available here). According to the Google Base main page, Google will allow users to upload content information into their database and allow users to search for information in Google's database.
There have been no limitations to information that can be uploaded reported, but Google does list examples on the Google Base site, from a used car that's for sale, to current-event articles on a website to a protein-structure database.
Google has not officially launched Google Base, nor has it announced plans for it, or whether or not it will require users to pay a fee for using the service. The website for Google Base in beta form was not up and running at press time.
Google shares were up 12 percent when markets closed Friday, reaching a new all-time high for the Internet search engine company.
