Breaking Down the Whitney Biennial List

Breaking Down the Whitney Biennial List

A DC Art News reader has spent some time doing some research in breaking down the list of artists selected for the 2006 Whitney Biennial. As expected (considering the curators): lots of home movies, photography and sculpture/installation.

Other fun facts: The researcher counted two people from Cal Arts and five people from Houston, Texas. Also about four people were art critics as well as artists. There may also be a few gallery owners. Here's the breakdown:

Sounds like quite the lineup! I wish I could see it myself. I've been following the works of Matthew Day Jackson (artworks and bio behind link) since he showed up on the art scene and I have to say I'm impressed.

Nice link, Lillywrite--lots of contemporary artists are featured on that site. While I was surfing around I saw some of Mark Grotjahn's work. It's very colorful and lovely. It seems like artists nowadays do a lot of weird installation art, so it's nice to see someone like Grotjahn painting simple, beautiful art.
