==========
MUSIC: Matt Freelove's picks of the week

CD Review: The 101ers - Elgin Avenue Breakdown Revisited by Jones Violet, Sept. 16
Jones Violet gives a history lesson on what Joe Strummer was up to before the Clash, and reviews his early bands recent re-release. All in less than 600 words. Nice!

CD REVIEW: Sigur Rós, Takk... by Josh Foust, Sept. 13
A well written, thoughtful review of Sigur Ros new album Takk by Josh Foust.

CD Review: The Rolling Stones - A Bigger Bang by Mark Saleski, Sept. 14
Mark Saleski says that The Stones' A Bigger Bang is worthy to be mentioned alongside Exile on Main St. Read on.

==========
BOOKS: Pat Cummings' picks of the week

Review: Metropolis by Elizabeth Gaffney
by Ashok K. Banker, Sept. 11
Ashok writes richly-linked reviews and commentary; when he's concentrating on a single book, he pulls half-a-dozen others into the mix. Even a Martin Scorsese film is drawn into use to inform his approach to Gaffney's debut novel.

Review: Voices of a People's History of the United States by El Bicho, Sept. 14

    Hey, I'm thrilled to be included here! More so because I've always had this guilty feeling that I ramble too much in my reviews, talking about everything from where and when and how I first came upon the book in question--or a book that led me to another author that in turn led me to this one, etc--and not enough on the book under review. Over time, enough readers have written in (to the newspapers in India I wrote for as well as to my blog, and more recently, here at blogcritics) to actually praise my 'all over the place' approach to book reviewing. But to have it picked as an Editor's Pick here is the final stamp of approval! It means a lot to me, guys. Thank you.
