(For the week of Nov. 5 to Nov. 11, posted the following Wednesday)***
This week brings something different. Acting off an idea from Blogcritics' writer El Bicho, each of the writers will have a pick of their own in any section to highlight what they liked reading. The same guidelines apply. This has the potential to introduce an even greater variety of quality to the picks, from those who have proven their focus and interest in their own writing. So, thank you Bicho for the idea. Those who I will be e-mailing separately this week are, of course, below.
|- MUSIC -|- BOOKS -|- TV/FILM -|- CULTURE/TECH -|- POLITICS -|
You made the list and you deserve a million of the currency of your choice. OK, how about a T-shirt that says "Ed picked me today?" No? Well then we have these lovely would-look-good -as-a-jeans-patch graphics. Please feel free to use below on your own site for picks this week. Right click this image to get the URL. gif listed first, jpg second. If you link the image to your winning post that would be even better.

POLITICS: Natalie Davis Picks of the Week
(Natalie Davis is the new Politics Section editor. Davis has been with the site since she first posted here March 13, 2003. She brings a wealth of real world editing, reporting and writing experience to the position. Welcome Ms. Davis.)
Elections: Canadian Style by gypsyman, Nov. 11
A refreshing and enlightening piece from a Blogcritic in the Great White North, this essay entertainingly explains to US readers the madness that is the Canadian political system. As gypsyman put it, "Nothing like another country's idiocy to make you feel better about your own."
Hanukkah - Judaism's Most Important Holiday by Ruvy in Jerusalem, Nov. 10
Given that we are at the start of the holiday season, I have become accustomed to the sunny, goyim-friendly portrayals for the Jewish Festival of Lights. Ruvy's informative and eye-opening article presents another view of Hanukkah, one that does not dovetail so nicely with the notion of all the winter holidays being about peace and goodwill. Fascinating stuff.
The Time Is Right For US Isolationism by Mark Edward Manning, Nov. 11
One needn't agree with an article to find it worthy. Mr. Manning's partial about-face on the issue of the US' overseas exploits is quite compelling and very well-written. Many may find it persuasive. And indeed, it takes a person of courage and character to modify a long-held point of view and to take the time to explain it publicly. Kudos.

Article comments
1 - GoHah
aka BigLug (sorry for the sudden name change to GoHah). Thank you for the recognition for something that was a lot of fun to write. And congrats to the other honorees.
2 - Sterfish
Great picks and congrats to everyone who was honored.
3 - Mark Edward Manning
Many thanks, TS and ND, for this second such award. Glad you enjoyed the "Isolation" piece. I thought I'd be flamed off the map for it, but to find out it was so valued is a nice surprise.
Cheers.
4 - Scott C. Smith
Thanks, Temple! I am blushing with pride.
5 - Scott C. Smith
Oh, and I forgot to say, thanks to the editors for selecting my review, and congrats to everyone else!
6 - Alisha Karabinus
Congratulations to all!
7 - Mary K. Williams
Well, gee, this is pretty cool! And now I feel stupid because it didn't occur to me to make a comment here until just now. Doh!
Anyway, thanks VERY much for the honor - and it's great to be in such good company!
Congrats to everyone else. : )
8 - El Bicho
Thanks to whoever said I always deliver a great review (Temple or Connie), but for clarification, Fumo Verde wrote the John Fogerty piece. I only posted it and did some editing.
Good week for The Masked Movie Snobs what with both Fumo and Sombrero Grande snagging BC editors' picks.
Next up, global domination.
9 - Ruvy in Jerusalem
Natalie, thank you for the honor.
10 - Viqi French
Wow, I'm so honored. I'm a little late on discovering my inclusion here, but thanks so much for the nod!
