Review: Human Accomplishment by James O'Neil, August 17
The scope of human accomplishment is daunting to write about, and even more daunting to read and review. James does justice to the Charles Murray essay on excellence through the ages, and finds a way to succinctly encapsulate what he liked about the book, and what he found wanting. "Ibsen? Doesn't he make guitars?"

When adults review children's books, results are mixed. Sometimes they try a "baby voice," or worse, a baby outlook, to deal with it. But when an adult mingles his mature viewpoint with a child's sense of wonder, you get a great view of the delight in kid-lit. Read Tam's review for an example of the latter.
