Blogcritics Editors' Picks 7 02 05 to 7 08 05

Part of: Editors' Picks

(For the week of July 2 to July 8, also including the pre-Holiday week of June 25 to July 1)

Picks - we got 'em. Apologies for the delay in bringing these Blogcritics' Editors Picks to you. Since last we sifted and lifted up the wheat, we have with us a new Culture Editor Lisa Hoover. Welcome. We have already added in Ms. Hoover's choices, and in the transition as bhw moves on to her date with a guillotine Comment Queen status, her fine taste lingers in her choices as well.

A post to your site about these choices would be helpful and provide your readers a quick hot hit of the best of BC. Just copy the link in the URL address field of your browser and go ...

If you are listed below, please feel free to use the button below on your own site (And if you want a smaller or bigger version let me know and I'll create one) for picks this week.

(See here for the last picks post and our complete guidelines.)

Here is the meat of why we are doing this: The idea for Editor's Picks is absolutely to be subjective based on only a few guiding principles.

Quality writing is the No. 1 factor, though the occasional juvenile, obnoxious but hilarious post will show up every now and then, too. The effort (not meaning length of post) is also a factor. Posts that entertain or give insight are also clearly factors in what makes a post worthy for remembering.

...
There won't be a certain number from each category (Music, Books, Video, Culture / Tech, Politics). There might not be something from every category, but a section editor may be away. If nothing sparked an editor in a certain week, we will mention that, too.
...
There will be no set number each week, but with about 250 posts a week, somewhere between 5 and 15 will be typical. Self-submissions are NOT encouraged. It's what caught the eye of the editors.

If an editor likes other editor's work, those come in a separate area.

For those who have suddenly become interested in us editors who roam restlessly behind the scenes, we are Lisa Iannucci, Politics; Lisa Hoover, Culture / Tech; Eric Berlin, TV / Video, Pat Cummings, Books, Temple Stark, Music. Those five, along with the occasional pick from site Publisher Eric Olsen, Tech rager Phillip Winn and Asst. Site Editor Justene Adamec.

Buttons are in. My picks are next.

Thank you for quality writing. I had actually missed many of these this time around so will enjoy a long read later.

I sent it about a week ago -- I'll need to go back and figure out what it was once again.

BHW: Gracias for the props. I will be sure to shower the train people with free gifts on this evening's ride.

Thanks for the EP. Dave Freer deserves at least ten times the publicity.

And i just noticed the other editors pick interview i did with Lois Bujold is not in the list of interviews.

This is off-topic, but ... I'm Blogcritic of the day??? I'm going to faint.

What did I do right, so I can keep on doing it?

Sadly, while the post picks of the week are merit-based, the Blogcritic of the Day is awarded based on, well, being an active Blogcritic. In other words, keep the good work in general, there was nothing specific that earned you the spot. :-)

So it's the equivalent of having a perfect attendance record in school? I'm today's version of "Miss (sic) Congeniality"?

Well then, um, thanks for the, uh, honor. Yay!

    Chels gets a two-fer.

And she and I both agree this wasn't her best work. Once she gets up to full speed you'll be all blown away.

Yeah sorry about that Matt. I'll make sure it doesn't happen again.

    GRIN.

BTW - Congrats you two, The original OC

Wow, twice in one week. Whatever bhw's smoking/snorting/shooting up, I'd appreciate a hit. ;)

At any rate, thanks for the props. I'm just lucky to be blabbing my unwanted opinion with the best.
