MUSIC: Temple's picks of the week.

Michelle Shocked - Threesome by El Bicho, June 21

All about the mischief wrought when you have your own label; Michelle Shocked records Disney songs. At the same time she releases two other very different albums at once. El Bicho takes you through it all in an easy but evocative style. Got me to buy it (haven't received it yet as i'ts not available on iTunes)

CD Review: Miles Davis - 'Round About Midnight Legacy Edition by Wally Bangs, June 21

Just a great "what if" scene written to start the piece, leading into the rest of a nice-sized meal of a review - not too short, not too long. As Goldilock's would say - juuust right. For Miles Davis, it has to be hard to be brief.

Jizzy Pearl - Vegas Must Die by Chris Akin, June 18

I'm continually amazed as I read around Blogcritics hearing of rock bands and people you thought had died (or at least faded away) but are still around. Like Michelle Shocked. Like Jizzy Pearl (and isn't that an, um, odd name for a guy?) and apparently - as demonstrated here - their fans still dig them. Also any evocation of "Black Out In a Red Room" is worthy. Love / Hate was and is one of the best early 90s bands out there. Although, I will say, I keep on reading the first line of the last paragraph as "ass kisser."

QUOTAGE: Few words strike terror in the heart of a reviewer like "big in Germany> Marty Dodge here.

You know, it's awful nice to be away from blogging for a week and check one's email from an internet cafe in the black hills and find out that you've made the "pick o' the week" TWICE. It almost makes one want to return to the real world. :)

    Thanks guys. I appreciate it.

How did this happen? Harris's office told Database--a firm with strong Republican ties-to cast as wide a net as possible to get rid of these voters. Her minions instructed the company to include even people with "similar" names to those of the actual felons. They insisted Database check people with the same birth dates as known felons, or similar Social Security numbers; an 80 percent match of relevant information, the election office instructed, was sufficient for Database to add a voter to the ineligible list.
