VIDEO/TV: Eric Berlin's pick of the week

DVD Review: Casino by Bill Wallo, June 23

The always interesting, solid-as-a-pair-of-dice Bill Wallo brings home another eminently readable review, this time delving into Casino's dense tapestry of glitz and sin and corruption. Where does Casino fall within the Scorsese canon?

BOOKS: Pat Cummings' picks of the week.

An adventurous woman by Natalie Bennett, June 19

This review of No Hurry to Get Home, the biography of a woman who got a diploma in Mining Engineering "due to sheer bloodymindedness, when denied by bureaucracy the right to take chemistry as an arts major," is notable in its balance between Natalie's personal response to the book, and the glimpse into the story which she provides.

The God Particle by by Bill Wallo, June 20
It's not an easy task to call an author on a less-than-excellent effort, while still providing a good sense of the book. If you need someone to do it with brevity and wit, Bill is your guy - and this review is my evidence.

You know, it's awful nice to be away from blogging for a week and check one's email from an internet cafe in the black hills and find out that you've made the "pick o' the week" TWICE. It almost makes one want to return to the real world. :)

    Thanks guys. I appreciate it.

How did this happen? Harris's office told Database--a firm with strong Republican ties-to cast as wide a net as possible to get rid of these voters. Her minions instructed the company to include even people with "similar" names to those of the actual felons. They insisted Database check people with the same birth dates as known felons, or similar Social Security numbers; an 80 percent match of relevant information, the election office instructed, was sufficient for Database to add a voter to the ineligible list.
