I admit, I have a bit of a crush on Peter Falk or “Colombo” as he’s known. To be completely clear, I should say the Peter Falk of the early seasons; the young face and the full wavy dark hair. See, the truth is, he reminds me of my husband when I first met him, something my husband never really understand but accepts anyway – after all, it’s less of a threat of the thought of the other love of the heart or of the sweet infatuation that has me wanting for the Dylan of the 60s, which is impossible, just like I can’t have my Peter Falk of the 70s and just like I have to deal with this fact.
But I am married and happily so and Peter Falk could come to my door in 70s form, Colombo-raincoat and all and I’d still turn him away. Yes, it would pain me just a little bit, but I do know that what I have is better (and I doubt my husband will ever see this article, so no, this isn’t written for his benefit, it’s just the truth). Why live the fantasy when you have the reality? It doesn’t make any sense. I’m fortunate to have a man who is part of all these people and more, is himself and what could be better than that for me? Nothing. Noone.
But none of this logic can stop me from day-dreaming can it, and what harm is there in that… in dreaming that Peter Falk is saving me from some bad guy or that we are together in some way, usually vaguely illicit but not disgustingly so, and with that ever-so-tiny paternal pinch that I anyway, require in any relationship.
It has to do with being rescued I think. Dylan rescued me and still does with his music, but most of it was the music of the sixties, though I still adore his new stuff, it doesn’t rescue me quite as much. It doesn’t take me in his arms and call me “Baby” and “Aww Mama” the way he used to. He’s become too much like Rod Stewart signing the old ballads, and that scares me. Is this what’s next for Dylan?

Another Columbo fan here. Glad to see the series featured here. :)
I think for me, it's some kind of father-figure thing. I actually wrote about Columbo in my blog a few months ago; trying to analyse my odd fandom choice.

dear Nukapai; i'm glad i'm not alone. i wrote a longer artilce here about the series which you can easily find by just clicking on my Blogcritics link and scrolling through if you are interested....meanwhile, i'm glad to have a comrade in arms. few people understand the Peter Falk attraction ~ he's just too kooky, a little off - in short, all of the things that make me love him so.... but again, it is for all the reasons i wrote.
i adore my husband, but i see in him more than a little Peter Falk as well as Dylan so i'm lucky to see what i like in my own guy which is probably why i then project it back outward and find it attractive because it is familiar.... sorry to get into so much detail, but i don't think any sort of attraction or infatuation is a small thing or without cause. the issue is finding the cause and being able to see that the whole thing is really silly at it's base ...
cheers to you and yes, we can share (wink wink)

Nakapai: you have such an interesting background and take, though you don't go much into it... but i really liked your site. did you do the design on that? it looks terrific.... really nicely done. feel free to visit mine any time... the URL you can get to by clicking at the top here on my name if you're interested. Meanwhile, i must eat some food before i just die of starvation here at my laptop....:)
cheers to you,

I'll be on my way to your page...now! (Just had to get something posted here at BC; decided to post a little rant).
As for site design - yes, did it all by hand in Notepad, all images in Photoshop (and digital shots/illustrations also mostly mine, although I used a couple of stock images too). It took me three whole days and a LOT of swearing, as TypePad is really kind of irritating to "hack" your way around (there are a few layout files within the core system itself, which you, as a user, can't modify, so you have to invent workarounds). Ugh.

Visited: I think I need to go back to read more. From what I saw, I definitely liked your style (although the site navigation and layout made me a little confused as to where I should be heading - but that could just be me). I particularly enjoyed your post about love and cheating. The photography is absolutely stunning. I'm salivating.

wow! then you did a great job with it....i think your site looks dynamite. i didn't think Typepad was so modifiable, or easy to modify; it sounds like you really worked it. Good for you! Nicely done...:)

Nukapai: i'm glad you like Tant Mieux. There is a lot there so it takes a while to get used to the navigation. If you scroll down there is a whole Bob Dylan section, which does well, and there are other sections that get a lot of traffic too... i should link to you, wanna swap links? post yours again and you have mine or i'll give it here:
www.tantmieux.squarespace.com
post yours in the next response if you see this..
g'night.

I would be delighted to swap links - if nothing else, it'll remind me to go back to your site every now and then and read more.
My blog is at: http://nukapai.typepad.com (so that's probably the best link to use. There is also the main website link for http://www.nukapai.net)
As for TypePad: thank you for the compliments, I am glad you like the design! And actually, in this case I am not particularly embarrassed to say that yes, it was hard work! That site is not very easy to modify, so the stuff I had to do is rather "dirty" - but it works. :D
