Is it iPod mania or what? Just two weeks ago, Apple Computer announced it had set up an online store dedicated to solely to the iPod. Now, Amazon, Inc., the foremost Internet retailer, has announced its own online iPod store. The Mac Observer reported the development.
Online retailer Amazon, Inc. has quietly launched an online Apple iPod store, The Mac Observer confirmed Tuesday with a company representative.
A company spokesperson confirmed the report and provided an online link to TMO. The online store has standard retail pricing on all iPod products. The site appears to be still in production as many accessory products are missing. The spokesperson did not say when the store would be fully operational, but products can be bought now.
The online Apple iPod store already seems to be ahead of some of the big box retailers that sell iPods. It has the complete repertoire, including the new U2 Special Edition iPod and the iPod Photo. Some brick and mortar retailers are still awaiting the new iPods or having difficulty keeping them in stock. Also, delivery will be more prompt than if the product is ordered from stores such as Office Depot, which does not actually stock the device. With the iPod expected to be a popular hi tech Christmas purchase, both Apple and Amazon seem destined to profit by the arrangement.
