A Short Guide to Phuket

Phuket is a large island in Thailand, almost as large as Singapore, surrounded by the Andaman Sea and located 867 kilometers from Bangkok. It is a very beautiful place, known to some as Paradise Island, with bays, beaches with white powder-like sand, and magnificent palm trees. There are many small islands surrounding Phuket.

There are many types of accommodations, from bungalows to five-star hotels, and the people are very nice, always ready to give you a hand and guide you. The food is a real pleasure for those who love seafood, and the many sporting activities include sailing, snorkeling, and diving. One very interesting attraction is diving in a submarine, from which you can observe and enjoy undersea life in its pure beauty.

As for nightlife, Phuket offers all kinds of fun and entertainment—clubs with live music, pubs, bars, even discos on the beach.

The Indian Ocean island has a tropical climate with dry and wet seasons. During the dry season, the weather is extremely hot, the sky is bright, the sun is shining, and the days are long. The season starts in November and ends in April. During that time, the monsoon (the local wind) is blowing from the northwest.

In the rainy season, from May to October, you have to be very careful because of possible floods. The good thing is that the rain does not last for a long time and every time after it rains, the sun comes out. During those months, the monsoon is blowing from the southwest.  In both seasons, because of the monsoon which blows all the time, the weather always remains warm and humid, but not always equally warm. High temperatures average 33.5 degrees Celsius (92 degrees Fahrenheit) in March, and 22 degrees Celsius (71.6 degrees Fahrenheit) in January.
