Dear Fellow Blogcritics, I have been putting off this post for a while because I couldn't decide if it was gonna make me took like a geek.
But after reading a few more posts this morning (all of which were excellent, by the way) I just couldn't take it anymore.
OK, so what's the trouble? Is it the fact that Pat Cooper, nutjob commedian extraordinaire, is covered in sauce? That all your old visual fantasies of Herb Alpert's Whipped Cream And Other Delights have been forever ruined?
As they say in Maine, NoSuh!
The problem is that the text is smooshed right up against the image.
I just can't stand it.
So here's the html hint that is making me feel like ever so much the geek as I type this sentence: add the attributes "ALIGN=left HSPACE=5" to your image tag.
It will add a nice little 'force field' around the picture.
See? Now your original visual fantasy has been restored.
And now I suppose I will have to live with my increased level of geekosity.

how does HSPACE relate to BORDER?
2 - Mark Saleski
i think that hspace is like an invisible border.
geezuz, i feel so geeky. i gotta go home and listen to the Dead or somethin'
3 - Eric Olsen
why "5"? Do others numbers work, ie, the bigger the larger the space?
4 - Mark Saleski
right. the number is pixels. larger values give more whitespace.
to be honest, the value of 5 was just the first one i picked. it looked good and i stuck with it. your mileage may vary.

I added it on the Death by iPod (fake story, by the way) pic and there doesnt' seem to be a space below the pic?

Okay, okay, I'll tweak the CSS one of these days, but for now you can use both HSPACE and VSPACE to get spaces on the sides (Horizontal) and top and bottom (Vertical). Sorry.
7 - Mark Saleski
phillip, this wasn't meant as a zing at your setup....it just bugged me.
though adding this to the css is a fine idea.

Hey Phillip, you don't get enough props for the how well this site is run, especially for how many members there are and how many articles are written every day. Anyway, just seems like an appropriate time to lay on some kudos and thanks.

Last time I redesigned things, I ended up almost-aborting after finishing 80% of the work because of bug in MSIE, and the result is, well, 90% of what it needs to be.
I've only recently discovered a way to pass completely different CSS to each specific version of MSIE, plus I've dedicated a machine of mine to stay on MSIE 5.5 for testing (which I couldn't even do last time) so I think I will soon again attack the design and try to improve readability.
Then again, some people always getting really irate when things change, no matter how much better things are, so I'm not exactly eager. :-)

you mean I have to do flipping "H" and "V" space? Computers fucking suck.
11 - Phillip Winn
Yes, they do, but in this case it's partially my fault, too. Sorry, truly.

I'm shocked! Shocked that you didn't include Soul Asylum's "Clam Dip and Other Delights", Shocked I tell ya. Now, where's that boarder tag (he owes me two months rent).

Mark, I've tried hspaces, borders, shrinking the image, you name it, and images posted at Blogcritiics still come out less than optimum much of the time. The preexisting template just overrides it. Coding from Blogger nearly always needs tweaking, for image and text.
14 - Mark Saleski
wow! i didn't even know that one existed. it has now been added to the "...And Other Delights" hall of fame.
15 - Mark Saleski
eric's right...computers suck.

Personally, I prefer to use the newer CSS properties than the HSPACE property. In your img tag, or in a span that wraps your img tag, use the following: style="padding:5px" If you want to float the image to the right of the text and have the text wrap around it, you could use style="float:right;padding:5px"
It would be about as easy if there were a class in the stylesheet for paddedobjects. Then you'd use IMG class="paddedobject".
Not only does the CSS method separate layout from content (which is an abstract good), it also provides a more maintainable design layer for Phillip.

I've copied your suggestions to try later, Michael. Thanks.

What's so bad about "looking like a geek"? :)
19 - relacore
Relacore Rules! Now relacore reduces fat in conjunction with proper diet and exercise, but it also helps balance hormone levels that cause stress-induced obesity and binge eating. If your exercise time is limited, Relacore is the best way to control the accumulation of cortisol and belly fat because the formula nips the problem of stress and anxiety in the bud, so to speak.
The key Relacore Ingredient is Relacortin™ formula. The most potent stress relieving, mood elevating energizer specifically designed to mitigate Metabolic Syndrome and reduce the accumulation of belly fat caused by excess cortisol. For visible results, insist on Relacore.

As we used to say at school: last week I couldn't spell "en-guh-neer," and today, I are one!
(That's pronounced with a hard "g" in the middle sylable, BTW...)
Thank you for the img padding tag - I have alredy grabbed it and modded My Function Keys tag set to use it! And while CSS is a great thing, the easiest way I've found to make posts portable from one place to another is the old-fashioned content-embedded tag.

You could always just align your images right instead of left and let the ragged line ends do the padding for you. Works for me.
