You’re Beautiful Lyrics

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I’m sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won’t lose no sleep on that,
‘Cause I’ve got a plan.

You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.
You’re beautiful, it’s true.

I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don’t know what to do,
‘Cause I’ll never be with you.

Remember when Elvis left music to be a soldier? In the case of James Blunt the process was reversed. James was a Captain in the English Army and a Peacekeeper in Kosovo. His family has a very long history of military service and a very short history of musical talent (according to James’s bio).

His own talent is obvious though on this, his debut album. With it he won an MTV award for best new act and has the top selling album for 2005. The CD is full of wonderfully melodic music and complemented by his high ranging voice.
He is being compared to such acts as Coldplay, Jack Johnson and Damien Rice.

His material seems to have a somewhat dark current flowing through it, either obviously as in the song No Bravery, or just below the surface, at least until you understand the real meaning of the song, such as the song You’re Beautiful which is playing here.

I liked You’re Beautiful as a song but felt like I wasn’t quite “getting it” until I saw the video. Even through most of the video the actual purpose of his actions remained unclear. Then in the final moments it all became clear. Why he wasn’t ever going to see the object of his infatuation. But is the girl the cause of his trip to the bridge or just a potential but missed detour on the way? I guess we will never know…

As a download for your IPOD I would definitely recommend “You’re Beautiful” as a 9 out of 10. Other potentially worthwhile IPOD downloads would be “Goodbye My Lover” and “No Bravery”. The whole CD I would rate a very enthusiastic 8 out of 10. Remember though that this is pretty dark brooding music overall and this video is a good example of the flavor of the whole CD.

  • Yes he does rock, I like his music a lot. There seems to be several trends in music right now which I thoroughly support. One is the ability of independent artists to promote their own material more successfully than they ever have been able to before via web resources and the other is the fact that, because of that, indie artists are able to perform more or less solo and count on the quality of their art to determine their success rather than just the manipulations of the traditional “machine”.

There is a similarity in the sense that Elvis & Mr.Blunt were in the service but beyond that this guy could never sing the way Elvis did….

  • Thank you amber 😀

I think that posting a video or song by the artist that I am reviewing lets my readers have a sample of the music I am describing.
