One of the most beloved (and my personal favorite of all the animated Christmas Specials) celebrates it’s 40th anniversary this year – A Charlie Brown Christmas. To mark this occassion, Peak Records has released 40 Years – A Charlie Brown Christmas.

At first blush, it would be tempting to compare this CD to the original soundtrack. And while it is true that the genius of composer Vince Guaraldi is what set the show’s soundtrack apart from many other specials, it would not be fair to try to compare this CD to the original because the original soundtrack is so good that anything else would pale in comparison.

40 Years – A Charlie Brown Christmas boasts a stellar lineup including Toni Braxton, Chaka Khan, Brian McKnight, Vanessa Williams, David Benoit (who also has been composing music for Peanuts specials for the last 10 years) and more.

This is really more of a companion to the original soundtrack that an attempt to duplicate the Vince Guaraldi masterpiece. For fans of the special, this will make a nice addition to their library.
