CBS is at it again. Only this time, they are not making headlines for something they did wrong.
Dan Rather has announced that he will step down in March from his anchor desk at CBS Evening News With Dan Rather. This leaves the door wide open for an infusion of fresh talent.
For some, it makes perfect sense, After all, Rather has had a long and distinguished career when it comes to news. Along with Peter Jennings and the now departed Tom Brokaw (replaced by Brian Williams), Rather is known as one of the three ‘biggies’ of newscasters.
Others might say that the resignation is the culmination of the aftereffects of the uproar which resulted after Rather brought a story on air which turned out not to be true. Any cub reporter can tell you that background work includes double checking. Since the story in question had to do with President Bush’s military service records, no questions were asked.
On the list of replacements are Katie Couric and Jon Stewart. I can only guess that Stewart is being considered because he can draw in viewers, not because of his news experience.Powered by Sidelines
